According to the Seismologists, two earthquakes have struck southwestern Greece, having preliminary magnitudes 5 but with different epi-centres. Even though, there are no reports in regard to injuries or damage.
The Athens Geodynamic Institute informed that the first quake struck at 5-12 a.m. (0312 GMT) Sunday, with an epi-centre beneath the seafloor 69 km south-west of the Ionian island of Zakinthos while the second struck more than two hours later off the south-western shore of the Peloponnese.
According to The U.S. Geological survey, the first quake was having a preliminary magnitude of 4.9, and the second 5. Preliminary magnitudes often vary in the early hours after a quake.
As the fact remains that Greece is in an earthquake-prone region, but most have epi-centres deep beneath the seafloor and rarely cause damage or injuries.
It was undoubtedly a serious alarm for Greece but the best part remains that there were no damages or injuries which is indeed a fortunate escape!
