One peon in BBMP has acquired a wealth of five houses, three sites, 2 acres and 16 guntas of land, a Mahindra Scorpio, 166 grams of gold ornaments and 650 grams of silver. However, he was caught by the Lokayukta police along with four others for possession of property that is disproportionate to his salary and other income sources. Allegedly, the other three too had property that was worth crores.
Kariyappa M, the peon along with C S Veeresh, additional registrar of cooperative societies and managing director of Karnataka State Co-operative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank; N Krishna, BBMP bill collector, Sarakki Kere, Puttenahalli ward; and Ankappa, operation theatre technician with Kidwai hospital were raided and then booked for corruption under the sections 13(1)(e), read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Veeresh also owned property on his wife's name. He had two residential buildings booked under the name Sumana, his wife, at Rajarajeshwarinagar in Bangalore and Sarvajna Nagar at Mysore.
