In a major development, the US resolution against Sri Lanka on the alleged violation of human rights has got a clearance at the United National Human Rights Council, which has its headquarters in Geneva. Notably, the resolution got support from as many as 25 countries that included India. Pakistan is in the list of 13 countries that voted against the resolution.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan envoy has mentioned that the resolution of the United States was not acceptable as according to him Sri Lanka's constructive engagement has been ignored. Further, he said Sri Lanka was not taken into consensus over this resolution. Switzerland said that it welcomed the resolution while Venezuela, which voted against US resolution found it as condemning. Pakistan too said it was not an example of constructive engagement.
On the other hand, external affairs minister here said that India continues its bilateral relationship with Sri Lanka and stressed that the current vote would not affect the relation. However, DMK was not happy with the resolution.
