Urals definitely have some action going on in 2013. Early in the year there was a scintillating meteor that blasted in the air very close to the surface causing over 1000 people to be injured. Now, the same mountainous region has unearthed a large emerald of high quality in a state-owned mine of Russia. It was reported that the emerald weighed 5000 carats. That is more than a kilo.
Kaliningrad Amber factory spokesperson said that the rock chip sample of emerald was extremely beautiful. Ural emeralds are known for their near perfect quality of hue in the gem stones.
This huge gemstone that weighs over a kilo is dark green and semi-transparent making it one of the most valuable rocks in emerald history. However, the market value for this gemstone is yet to be ascertained by experts from the State Precious Metals and Gems Repository.
The Malyshevskoye deposit has been in bit of luck at the Urals. Las year a Yubileiny emerald was dug out at the deposit. This one extracted now was the second biggest on site.
Russia seemed to have a good time with emeralds as the Kaliningrad Amber Factory has earner $1million from auctioning 50Kg of emerald this year. Rock Chip emeralds, the softer variety of emeralds find buyers in Europe, China and the USA where several collectors preserve them. The value of emeralds is said to be growing by 10% every year.
Russia however is not a big player in the game despite its big produces. Colombia rules the world with 50-95% of all the emeralds in the world.
