Dubai vessel a terrorist threat?

Coast Guards on Thursday had been faced with a situation after a vessel traveling from Dubai had used a satellite telephone to make calls creating suspicion. It was intercepted off the coast of Mumbai where the five members on board were taken into custody.

On Wednesday, Coast Guards intercepted calls from Thuraya Satellite Phone on MSV Yusufi which started traveling from Dubai. It was then intercepted by the officials 35 nautical miles off Mumbai. The ship had 28 live goats on board.

Investigations revealed that the phone on board was thrown away from the ship along with a few other dead goats. The five onboard the ship were taken into custody and the case was passed on to the Mumbai Police for further investigation.

It is reported that they were constantly in touch with a person Usman in Dubai. Investigations revealed that he was sending a few goods from Dubai to Mumbai. It is suspected that the “goods” in question could be a consignment of drugs.

However, there is always a threat element from overseas ships reaching the land and using satellite phones for communicating during the journey.
