Tamil Nadu train derails and kills two

In a train accident at Sitheri, Arakkonam, early in the morning today, Wednesday, two passengers died. 50 others sustained major injuries.

Nine of the Muzaffarpur-Yesvantpur Express' coaches were derailed while on their way to Yesvantpur at around 5:50am today. This unfortunate incident resulted in two fatalities. Arakkonam junction is now at an impasse after the accident.

50 of the injured were rescured by disaster management teams of the Southern Railway and were shifted to nearby hospitals.

This is not the first time Arakkonam witnessed a train accident. Two years ago Arakkonam-Katpadi passenger was rammed by Chennai Beach-Vellore Cantonment MEMU train killing 9 people due to poor signals. The Arakkonam-Katpadi train was waiting for a signal as the accident happened.
