Peacekeepers of India lauded by US

India is a leading champion of the UN Peacekeeping operation in the tense zone of the world, the US said speaking of the killing of the Indian Peacekeepers in South Sudan. The USA said that they strongly condemn the ghastly incident.

The government of South Sudan was also notified to bring justice to those who lost their lives by starting an investigation as soon as possible.

"We condemn in the strongest terms today's attack by unknown assailants on the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) convoy carrying peacekeepers and civilians in the State of Jonglei, which resulted in the deaths of five Indian soldiers along with at least seven civilians and injuries to several more UNMISS personnel," Patrick Ventell of the State Department said yesterday.

He also conveyed condolences to the kith and kin of the members who were killed and injured in the attack.

It also asked the victims to maintain restraint while they take up the issue to the United Nations and ensure justice after an investication. He added that they would continue their support for the UNMISS with unfaltered dedication.

This incident was noted after five of the Indian Army personnel were killed yesterday while performing their duties as peacekeepers in South Sudan. The victims included one Lt Colonel too. Of the total 32 members from the Indian Army, five members died and four were injured after the attack.
