Carnatic vocalist Nookala is no more

Celebrated Carnatic vocalist and Padma Bhushan awardee Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana has passed away peacefully at his house in Hyderabad. He had lived till the ripe age of 90 years. His three children are yet to arrive in the city from abroad for the cremation. He is survived by three daughters and four sons.

Nookala was born at Anakapalle in Andhra Pradesh in 1923. He is an icon in the field of Carnatic vocals. He also had students abroad and visited them to teach music. Nookala studied Indian as well as Western music and compared them both. He even used Skype to spread his teachings abroad. Nookala recorded many Annamacharya kirtanas at his home recording studio for the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and also published several books on music.
