Arabian camel may be Mers virus host

Researchers on Friday brought it as a prominent factor that the Arabian camel happens to be a possible host of the deadly human Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers) virus. The exact origins of the virus is a riddle scientists have been working hard to solve in a bid to stoppage its spread, precisely in the lead-up to the annual hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia in October.

At the present time, an international team explains that the blood tests were positive for antibodies in camels from Oman, meaning they had at some point been infected with Mers Coronavirus (Mers-CoV), otherwise a closely-related virus. Furthermore, a statement that accompanied the study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases journal mentioned that the discovery recommends that Arabian otherwise dromedary camels may be one reservoir of the virus that is causing Mers in humans.
