Storm Xaver played havoc in Northern Europe. It showed its fierce face to New Germany more making it rock. The North Sea continued to batter against dikes in the early hours of Friday, with storm winds snapping trees and damaging buildings in the country's north.
The storm hit Northern Britain and East Coast areas. As per the meteorological experts, it was the worst storm to hit the continent in many years. As winds blew at 225 km per hour, many people in Britain were killed in overturned vehicles and under the trees felled by the winds. It disturbed the power, transportation and communications in Britain. Thousands of people evacuated from low lying areas in East Coast.
North Germany has gone without power in many areas. Hamburg Airport was closed. All 38 gates of Hamburg were closed as flood waters rose 6.9 meters above normal level that happened after many decades. Railway tracks of speed trains between German’s largest cities Berlin and Hamburg was closed due to debris blocking the way. German Transport Minister urged people to travel only in case of utmost importance and absolutely necessary.
