The Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said today that the Lokpal Bill may be taken up by Rajyasabha on Friday. He said that the select committee has already given a notice to the Rajyasabha to table the Lokpal Bill immediately.
Anna Hazare's hunger strike for the Lokpal Bill reached 3rd day today that evidently is generating heat in the Government circles.
Shinde gave further details about the bill that the bill was already passed in the Loksabha and went to Rajyasabha. As per the recommendations from the Rajyasabha 13 amendments were made in the bill by the Government.
Parliament Affairs Minister Kamalnath also said earlier that the priority is given for Lokpal Bill. Union Minister V.Narayanasamy also told earlier that the Government has taken all possible steps and intends to pass lokpal bill but only the opposition is not allowing the bill to come for the discussion.
He said, "Opposition parties are not allowing the House to function. Therefore, as soon as the House comes to order, the government will take Lokpal Bill on a priority for discussion and voting. Therefore from the government side, we have done everything; we are ready to pass the Bill as early as possible.”
He further said, "In the Lok Sabha, it was passed. As far as the Rajya Sabha is concerned, it went to the select committee of the Rajya Sabha. Select committee gave thirteen recommendations which have been accepted by the government. The Cabinet approved and then I requested the chairman of the Rajya Sabha to take up the Bill for discussion. It is pending in the Rajya Sabha.”
