Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday passed the Odisha Lokayukta Bill, 2014 with provision of keeping Chief Minister, ex-Chief Ministers, other ministers and public servants under the purview of anti-corruption panel. The Lokayukta Bill was introduced in the state Assembly on February 12 and after a two-day discussion the pass was passed unanimously. With this Odisha became the first state to pass Lokayukta Bill in India after Parliament giving nod to Lokpal Bill.
Odisha government made five amendments in the Bill proposed by opposition out of 60 Clauses. Sitting or Former High Court Judge of Odisha will chair the Lokayukata panel and this chairman would be appointed by Governor based on the recommendation of the selection committee.
