Chinese-firworksThis Diwali Chinese firecrackers may be in great demand , but cops are afriad that these may pose safety hazards.

"There are some new Chinese toy guns, which are quite popular in the market. Some are smoke guns and some use pellets, which can be dangerous if fired from a close range. Available for anything between Rs 60-120, these toys are in great demand," said a senior police officer. "Such items have been banned. We have detained two men from Sadar Bazar who were found selling these. We would appeal to parents not to buy such toys for their children," said the officer. He said police were also testing some Chinese rockets as they suspect that these may have crossed the 125 decibel limit.

The demand for Chinese firecrackers has led to brisk business for shopkeepers and wholesalers this Diwali. Shopkeepers, this time, expect to make huge profits as there has been a sharp rise in the demand for Chinese crackers.

Crackers made in China are giving a fierce competition to Indian firecrackers this year. Over 151 new varieties of Chinese crackers, including rockets, musical crackers, sparklers and spinning fireworks have arrived in the market, said a wholesale dealer.

As Police said, One Mohinder Kumar was arrested on Thursday for illegally storing a huge quantity of firecrackers without any valid permit/licence. Around 2300kg of firecrackers were seized from his house in the Jama Masjid area .
