Missing Bollywood actress Veena Malik has been found safe and well. Controversial Pakistani actress Veena Malik, who had gone 'missing' from Friday morning while shooting for a film in Goregaon here, has been found at a hotel in Juhu in suburban Mumbai.
According to sources, she arrived back for visa renewal to Lahore via Wagha border, where her friend Ashmit Patel had come to drop her. She had mysteriously disappeared from Mumbai where she was shooting for a film. She had come to India on a 45 days visa, which was about to expire and a couple of days back she was asked by the authorities to get the visa renewed.
Her arrival in Pakistan went unnoticed because she was wearing a burqa and her passport carried her real name Zahida.
The controversial Pakistani model and actress, who is suing FHM magazine after she claimed they doctored photos to make her look nude, had not been seen since Friday morning. She claimed she only posed topless for FHM, but that photos were doctored to make her look completely naked.
Since the pictures appeared of her, with just an ISI (an acronym for the Pakistan spy agency) fake tattoo on her arm, she has been the subject of death threats from militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba.
The Lahore-based militants issued a statement saying: "She has made fun of all Muslim women and brought shame to the entire nation. Veena Malik will be dealt with accordingly on her return to Pakistan. " Spokesman Abu Usama added ominously: "Our faithful are prepared to welcome her."
And prominent Muslim cleric Maulana Abdul Qawi warned of a fatwa against Malik for shaming Islam.
Malik said attitudes in Pakistan were from the ‘Stone Age’, adding: “The things I have done in life, I have the guts to stand by. This is my body; this is my life.”
Vowing not to back down she said she was being vilified by her compatriots.
“This attitude, I’m sorry, is in the society. When they say they have become modern, grown up, that’s wrong. They still live in the Stone Age.” In a text to journalists Pakistan’s military press office said the scandal was “the height of humiliation for Pakistan, done by a Pakistani on Indian soil”.
"Veena Malik is in Oakwood hotel. She has registered in the hotel by her real name Zahida and she has all the papers. She was unwell for a couple of days," Machendra Bodke of Juhu police station told media persons. Against the backdrop of reports that she had mysteriously disappeared, Veena said she had changed her hotel in Mumbai and switched off her mobile phone as she wanted to rest. She told Geo News channel that she had been feeling unwell after working for up to 18 hours a day.
The actress' manager Prateik Mehta had claimed that she had gone missing since Friday morning when she was shooting for the film. He had said that he had been trying to contact her ever since then but her phone is switched off.
The actress, who has been in and out of India for film and reality shows, was shooting 'Mumbai 125 kilometres' in Goregaon and left the shoot midway, saying she was not well.
However, the police said that there was no missing person's complaint registered in this connection.
Malik was recently in the news for posing nude with an ISI tattoo for an Indian magazine.
After finishing this movie, Veena is also slated to appear on Imagine TV's reality show 'Swayamvar', where she will be searching for a 'Mr Right'.
