The B-Wood Badshah shows more interest towards the negative angle on the human side. This one role he peculiarly steered clear of for almost 12 years is the outright negative, in his latest magnum opus Don-2. Farhan Akhtar handed King Khan the opportunity to reprise the title role of `Don’, a character made famous by Indian stalwart Amitabh Bachchan. Now–five years since Akhtar’s reinterpretation of the 1970s cult phenomenon–King Khan is set to bring the irredeemable bad guy back to the big screen on Dec. 23.
`Now, after 15-20 years, I got a chance to play a negative character in ‘Don’. There is a justification for the character to be negative...to be bad. I enjoy doing it. I am in no way glorifying negative characters. These are stories and characters. But as an actor, it is one of the greatest highs to play a villain. It is a different kind of a high for an actor,’ he said.
He further added, `Evil or devil, black or little grey characters, be it in books, stories, films or television have some sort of attraction.’ But Sharukh went on, `In fact, my daughter saw `Don 2’ and told me, `But Papa, you’re so naughty in this film!’
If one remembers in `Ra.One’ the science fiction by the B-Wood Badshah again, there is a sequence when the hero’s son tells him to make the villain an indomitable force. So there seems to be a lot of admiration among the GenX for negative shades, but ultimately in the end they prefer only the righteous to win.
But Don-2 unravels another important incident in the chain smoker King Khan’s life as he plans to quit smoking after the release. He assured, `After Don 2 releases I will get some time to start working out, getting into healthier regime. I would like to say that smoking is a bad thing and one must not do it.’ Don-2 is story of a bad guy who is a protagonist. And the unexpected love story between a negative protagonist and Priyanka Chopra’s character. How can a girl love a man who killed her brother? Well these are certain things would only unravel the mystery after buying the tickets.
