Just as the day was dawning today, after midnight of Tuesday fire broke out in the area near the Sri Kanaka Durga Devi Temple, at Krishnalanka gutting nearly hundred hutments dwelled by poor labourers.
As per early reports fire engulfed the mushroomed hutments, where a lot of poor people lived and who were taking up menial labour jobs. The fire that started from one hut, reasons yet to be established, spread like wild fire due to the explosion of a couple of gas cylinders, in the huts. Since almost all the dwellers sleep on the outside, no life loss or causalities was reported.
Just beside the Kanakadurgamma Varidhi Karakatta, towards Krishnalanka Ranigari Thota, some poor people built huts and resided there. Fire destroyed the major portion of the settlement.
