The Congress Party High Command in its bid to deal with the ongoing agitation for separate Telangana, is reportedly toying with the idea of Khammam District's party dalit leader, Sambhani Chandrasekhar as the new head of the Pradesh Congress Committee. Quite for some time, there has been talk about the need of overhauling the party leadership in the state and it is not for the first time that Sambani's name is doing rounds for the party's chief post. Three years back, Sambani's candidature for the PCC chief position was mooted by a central minister from the state. However, he could not make the cut and got inducted into the then YS Rajasekhar Reddy Cabinet as the Minister for Health and Medical Services. Later, in 2009, Sambani got defeated from Sattupalle constituency.
Chief Minister, N.Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is presently camping in New Delhi, broached with the Party High Command about the name of party's nominee for the party's top post. The CM held detailed discussions with the Congress Party High Command until late in the night among other things like the selection of party's candidates for the MLC elections, the law and order situation in the state arising out of the agitation for statehood for Telangana.
Kiran Kumar Reddy was reported to have handed over his report to Sonia Gandhi's political advisor, about the present political developments in the state, including the ongoingnon-cooperation movement by Telangana government employees.
The present incumbent D Srinivas is lobbying for the MLC seat which will eventually provide him a platform to get into the cabinet.
