No question of Telangana, says TOI

no-question-of-telangana-says-toiIndia’s leading national daily Times of India reported today that the congress party is not willing to grant statehood for Telangana region of AP for the simple reason that it would ignite a separate state agitation for Gorkhaland in West Bengal and would cause difficulties for the new chief minister Mamatha Banerjee.

The daily quoted the top AICC sources as saying that there would be no Telangana state since the new lady boss of West Bengal bluntly refused to agree to the proposal. The congress leadership is in no mood to antagonize Mamatha by accepting the demand for Telangana state as it would bring difficulties to her, said the daily.

The Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in-charge of AP congress affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, senior congress leader Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P. Chidambaram had already discussed the issue in detail and decided to grant economic and political packages for the Telangana area, according to the daily.

“The congress needs the support of the MPs who would be elected from West Bengal in the 2014 polls and it would not displease Mamatha,” said Times of India quoting its sources.
