Cong core committee discusses Telangana

PrabhakarEven as the core committee of the congress party met today at the residence of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to discuss the issues of Telangana and Lok Pal bill, Congress MP of the Telangana region Mr Ponnam Prabhakar told newspersons in Delhi that there are no differences among the MPs and MLAs of the party on the issue of submitting resignations for the sake of Telangana.

The core committee meeting was attended, among others, by Manmohan Singh, party president Sonia Gandhi, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence minister AK Antony.

The core committee members met Friday evening after party president Sonia Gandhi returned to Delhi yesterday morning and discussed the proposed draft of the Lok Pal bill but could not concentrate on the Telangana issue.

Reports said that core committee members explained the seriousness of the situation regarding Telangana to Sonia Gandhi and urged her to take an immediate decision on the issue. Political circles expect the core committee to take a decision on Telangana in today’s meeting.

Meanwhile, Ponnam Prabhakar said they were sincerely trying for achieving Telangana and no one should doubt their intentions. He also denied reports of differences among the region’s congress leaders on the question of resignations. “We are all committed to submit our resignations for achieving Telangana and the reports of differences are not correct,” he said.
