Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh accused Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) top leaders Sushma Swaraj and M Venkaiah Naidu of having professional business links with Janardhan Reddy, the king pin in the Illegal mining scam in Karnataka. He said the links must be probed.
He further accused the BJP of playing double standards on corruption. I have not seen any political party which indulges in as much double-talk as the BJP on the issue of corruption. The Reddy brothers had been also taking protection money from people and not just were involved in illegal mining, Singh added.
Janardhana Reddy, who was accused of running an illegal mining empire with his brother Karunakara Reddy, was arrested along with his brother-in-law by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday and later sent to a 14-day judicial custody by a Hyderabad court.
BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Ruddy shot back saying the Congress facing several scam charges is using tools like the CBI to target political rivals. He called the episode a political vendetta.
Brushing off Singh’s allegations, leader Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday said a probe will reveal the truth.
