A huge 127-ft idol of Lord Ganesha today collapsed in Visakhapatnam hours before its proposed immersion this evening.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident as there were no people near the huge idol when it collapsed on its own weight.

The idol was installed in the MVP colony of the city by the colony residents as part of the Vinayak Chavithi celebrations this year. As special arrangements are required for its immersion, it was not immersed along with the other idols on the 11th day,

Daily some local youth are sleeping beside the idol and early morning today, all of them left the pandal for making arrangements for its immersion this evening. The idol collapsed after all of them left the place.
