The leaders of the Samaikyandhra Samrakshana Samithi (The committee for keeping the state united) today gave a call for Vijayawada bandh tomorrow protesting against the arrest of Vijayawada congress MP Mr. Lagadapati Rajagopal in Hyderabad today.
Lagadapati Rajagopal was arrested by the police when he went to the RTA office to console its Seema Andhra employees who were attacked and manhandled by the striking Telangana employees on Monday.
When Rajagopal was there, Telangana congress and TRS leaders also arrived there in an angry mode forcing police to arrest him to avoid a confrontation with them. The police had also arrested the TRS leaders as a precautionary measure. They were taken to different police stations.
The congress leaders and activists of Vijayawada town garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Corporation office and resorted to a dharna raising slogans in favour of united AP and demanding the release of Rajagopal.
