PCC chief Mr Botsa Satyanarayana today ruled out changes in the design or height of the Polavaram project.
Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Botsa said neither the design nor the height of the Polavaram project can be changed at this stage. “It is not good for any one to create hurdles for the project as it is a multipurpose project and would be useful to all regions in the state,” he said.
Botsa has asked all political parties to cooperate to complete the project in time and promised to provide better relief for all who would lose their lands. “The Government will pay good compensation to the displaced tribals due to the project,” he said.
Botsa’s assertions mean the height of the project would be 150 ft as proposed earlier and the height is not going to be reduced.
Botsa also clarified that the Supreme Court never asked the state government not to go ahead with the project. “If the apex court had asked the state government not to go ahead with the project, the government would not dare to call for tenders to build the project,” he said. He however said that the issue of tenders is facing litigation in the state high court.
