Congress high command is likely to announce its decision on the Telangana issue in the next seven days, according to media reports. “The leadership may announce its stand on Telangana in the next two to seven days,” said AICC sources.
Earlier, Union Minister and in charge of congress affairs in AP Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad met the congress president Sonia Gandhi at her residence in Delhi and discussed the Telangana issue.
The evening meeting over tea gains significance in the wake of the Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s recent announcement that the Centre may announce its decision on Telangana issue after the Bakreed festival.
Azad requested the congress chief to take a quick decision on the issue to stop further damage to the party in the state, according to sources. Reports indicated Azad has also submitted a report to Sonia on the latest situation in the state with relation to Telangana issue.
Azad has also explained to her about the indefinite fast launched by former minister Komatireddy Venkatareddy who is continuing his fast in the NIMS demanding the formation of Telangana state. Venkatareddy began his fast on Nov 1 at Nalgonda but was forcibly shifted to the NIMS by the police.
Sonia is said to have instructed Azad to take steps to ensure that Komatireddy calls off his fast as soon as possible.
