Even as special CBI Judge O P Saini of Delhi today permitted Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy to depose as a witness and produce further evidence in support of his complaint on the role of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum scam, opposition BJP demanded his resignation.
“Dr Swamy is allowed to depose as a witness number one in the case,” judge Saini said in his order. With this, the focus now shifted to Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum case.
Dr Swamy wanted the Sports Secretary Sindhushree Khullar and CBI Joint Director HC Awasthi to be examined as witnesses in the case and deposing as a witness, he will explain why they should be examined.
BJP guns for Chidambaram’s head
As soon as the special court delivered its order, BJP demanded the resignation of Chidambaram saying the court order has vindicated its earlier stand.
BJP leader Murali Manohar Joshi demanded at a press conference that Chidambaram’s role in the 2G scam must be probed. On its part, the Government rejected the demand saying the court’s order was no judgment against Chidambaram.
Chidambaram also refused to comment on the court order to allow Swamy as a witness. Meanwhile, both houses of parliament were adjourned twice today with the opposition demand for Chidambaram’s resignation leading to pandemonium. (JUBS)
