ACB director-general Mr Bhupathi Babu met CM Kirankumar reddy this evening at the Secretariat in Hyderabad and handed over a report following its raids on liquor syndicates across the state in the last few days.
The report has reportedly indicted that liquor syndicates have paid huge sums as bribes to elected repreventatives from local councilor or corporator to MLAs, ministers, excise and police officials and even local journalists for allowing them to sell liquor over and above the prescribed MRP.
The retail prices of liquor bottles in some towns in the state in fact exceeded by more than 40 per cent of the MRP. The liquor shops formed as syndicates in all towns and cities and resorted to this malpractice after paying kickbacks to MLAs, Ministers, excise and police officials and journalists, according to ACB sources.
On the orders of the CM, the ACB officials carried out raids on liquor syndicate offices in many districts including Hyderabad over the last one week and recovered incriminating records. (JUBS)
