The government has just woken up from deep slumber, just in time to recover Rs. 4 Cr form the total embezzlements in the Indiramma housing.
Accidentally the state government has found the nexus between the officials, self-help groups (SHG) women and others involved in the Indiramma Housing Program to have gobbled together a sum of approximately Rs 260 Cr and till date have recovered 4Cr from the duplicate beneficiaries. The government circles had a series of meetings to assess the exact damage done to the exchequer. And senior officers have been asked to look into the irregularities across the state and submit a report. The government plans to deal seriously with the offenders.
After one such meeting, at Hyderabad on Monday, Housing Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana spoke to the waiting journalists that prior to the inquiry ordered now, a sum of Rs.4 Cr could be recovered out of the embezzled money from many employees and SHG members. It was generally found that SHG members, supervising the construction of dwelling units at some places, drew amounts from the competent authority and did not hand over the same to the beneficiaries.
`More than three lakh houses have gone to bogus beneficiaries, resulting in swindling of over Rs.260 Cr. We have directed the district collectors to send detailed reports on misappropriation of funds in their respective districts so that further action can be initiated,’ he added. The opposition could be a little satisfied that for long they were raising the issue of graft in the housing scheme and today it has come true. However it is not quite clear as to how the money will be recovered or where the money had gone, as usual. (AarKay)
