The congress leadership in the state is trying to corner the YSR Congress party president Mr YS Jaganmohan reddy on the issue of by-poll for the Mahaboobnagar assembly constituency.

The assembly seat has fallen vacant following the death of independent member Mr Rajeswara reddy and the Election Commission is expected to announce the schedule for the by- polls in the state soon.

By election will be held for six assembly constituencies along with the Mahaboobnagar seat in the Telangana region.

In this backdrop, Jagan recently announced that all parties should try to ensure the victory of Rajeswara Reddy’s wife Vijayalakshmi in Mahaboobnagar unanimously.

Now, the congress has hit upon a plan to corner Jagan by offering her the party ticket in the by poll. On her part, Vijayalakshmi also is ready to contest on the Congress ticket. Jagan advocated her unanimous election with the view she would favour his party but contrary to his expectations, Vijayalakshmi openly announced she would contest on Congress ticket if permitted by the party.

Her husband always favoured the YSR Congress party when he was alive and Jagan thought she would also sail with his party. However, Jagan’s idea has boomeranged as the events are unfolding.

Vijayalakshmi also sought the help of other parties in ensuring her unanimous victory in the by-poll. We will have to wait and see how YSR Congress party will react in case the Congress offers ticket to her. (JUBS)
