Amalapuram police today arrested three persons allegedly responsible for the destruction of Ambedkar statues.
Based on the information given by them, the police recovered the statues from an agricultural well near Amalapuram. Police said one Mr Gandham Pallam Raju, the brain behind the destruction of the statues, is at large.
Police said the three young men, in their twenties, destroyed the statues under the influence of alcohol and promised to take steps to prevent the recurrence of such destruction.
IG Rajendranath Reddy told journalists they have filed cases against 13 persons for the statues’ destruction and the remaining persons also would be caught soon. Meanwhile, Eluru town in West Godavari district, observed bandh today protesting against the destruction of statues. The bandh call was given by the Mala Mahanadu. (JUBS)
