The CBI joint director Mr VV Lakshminarayana, whose hands are full with the ongoing investigation into high profile cases involving YSR Congress President YS Jaganmohan reddy, illegal mining case and the Emaar land scam, has been asked to probe the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

The Supreme Court, which has been monitoring the progress of the case at regular intervals, has asked the CBI to speed up the probe and the agency’s boss Mr AP Singh has asked Lakshminarayana to handle the case aiming at a quick probe.

The Gujarat wing of the CBI has till now investigated the case but henceforth the probe will be monitored by Lakshminarayana.

The Gujarat CBI has grilled the AP IPS officer and DIG, Intelligence N Balasubramanyam and Samshabad ACP Mr Srinivasa Rao twice till now on their role in the fake encounter case.

Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife were reportedly kidnapped by Gujarat police in 2005 from an APSRTC bus in AP in 2005 and were later killed in Gujarat. The AP police officers have reportedly helped the Gujarat police in the kidnap and killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

The CBI cop will now call the AP cops for further questioning in the case. (JUBS)
