The state Human Rights Commission (SHRC), which took a series view of the Jagtial police officials beating up a 15-year old minor boy in full public view on Tuesday for allegedly stealing petrol from a vehicle, ordered inquiry and action against the officials.
A private news channel showed clippings of the CI Challa Deva Reddy and constable Ganga Reddy beating up the boy mercilessly with lathis after a resident handed over the boy to them. The resident told the officials he as stealing petrol and spare parts from parked vehicles.
At one stage, the CI took out his revolver and threatened the boy with dire consequences as per the footage shown by the channel.
After registering a sue motto case, the SHRC directed the police DGP Dinesh Reddy to inquire into the incident and file a report by March 7.
Meanwhile, Jagtial ASP A. Rama Rajeswari, who viewed the video clippings, conducted an inquiry and found fault with the inspector and constable. She had recommended disciplinary action against the duo. (J)
