Rs.1 Cr cash found in TDP leader’s house in Kovur

Police teams today seized Rs.1 Cr cash from the house of former TDP corporator Mr Om Prakash in Kovur of Nellore district and are questioning him in this connection.

Police suspect the cash was meant to be used for distribution among voters in the Kovur assembly constituency where by poll will be held on March 18 along with six other constituencies in the state.

A police official said they have raided the house on a tip off and found the cash hidden in the house. “They have shown accounts for an amount of Rs.50 lakh but there are no accounts for the remaining cash,” he said, adding, they have passed on the information to the Income Tax authorities.

However, Om Prakash denied the allegation that the amount was meant for distribution among voters. “The police officials came to my house in my absence and when only women were there. They behaved very roughly with them,” he alleged. (J)
