Water blues in Hyderabad

The water scarcity in Hyderabad has reached to an alarming level. The sources have said that in case the city doesn’t witnesses rainfall by the mid of June, the situation would be very tough. The water board in-charge director, Sundar Ram Reddy has said that the officials would require to install motors and pump water from dead storage levels of Osmansagar in a couple of days if there are no rains.

Notably, the water levels at dead storage level at Osmansagar as well as Himayatsagar was not up to the mark. As of now, the total water available at almost all reservoirs of the city including Himayatsagar, Manjira and Akkampally is 13. 547 TMC. Last year the water was 19. 584 TMC.

The officials have said that in places like Adikmet water supply is regular while in some major parts of the twin cities, water is being supplied on alternate days.

People, on the other hand, are venting out their anger against the situation. Many people have already switched to water tankers and the increased water tankers plying on Hyderabad roads prove how worst the situation has turned. The government should promptly look into the issue instead of waiting for rains. (Phani)
