The state government plans to constitute a committee of officials and the representatives of the state Archakas Association to work out modalities to ensure payment of salaries to the archakas and other staff. The salaries would be paid either through the government treasury or a fund floated for the purpose as laid down in section 65 (A) of the Endowments Act.
Principal secretary of Revenue department, Chitra Ramachandran said that an authority would be formed in the state with one Additional Commissioner and two joint commissioners to study the implementation of the conditions laid down in section 65 (A) of the Endowments Act. This committee headed by Ms Chitra Ramachandran, will discuss with the archakas and other temple staff unions. Results thus obtained would be considered for implementation. The decision was taken after the department had signed an agreement with the protesting Archakas from the Telangana region who were demanding the issues.
In fact in a recent news it was noted that the Archakas were not getting brides as the girls were opting for better settled grooms. The salaries of the Archakas seemed to be too low with utterly no growth at all. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
