Vijaya Dasami ends with pomp and gaiety

After the nine days of special prayers offered to Goddess Durga, the Navrathri concluded with Vijaya Dasami as people celebrated the victory of good over evil with great devotion and fervour all across the state. Traditional dances, bathukamma, and several other similar customs were a part of the celebrations adding vibrancy to the festive moods.

Donning colorful sarees and other traditional apparel, devotees flocked to temples to offer prayers at several places most prominent ones being Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Basara.

Traditional pujas at home were conducted at all houses. The South Indian special event during the festival, Bommala Koluvu, where women and girls arrange toys and dolls in order embellishing the arrangement with flowers and mango leaves. Saraswati, the Goddess of Education, was worshiped and several children were also initiated into education at temples, another special event on this auspicious note.

Hyderabadi's had a lot more action as they took the Durga idols for immersion in Hussain Sagar Lake after the navrathri ended. Railway stations were all busy after the families returned to the cities after a long holiday.
