The Supreme Court is going to hear its verdict on 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case wherein Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt is an accused. 1993 bomb blasts is worse bomb blasts that ever took place in Mumbai as it claimed over 250 lives in 12 serial blasts. Nearly 800 persons were injured and property worth crores turned down to ashes.
Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Court (TADA) has given capital punishment to 11 persons while 22 other convicts got lifers. Remaining persons got imprisonment between 3 years to 10 years, which also included Sanjay Dutt. Mr Dutt got six years of jail term for holding 9 mm pistol and AK-56 rifle.
Some important facts:
-
Sanjay Dutt spent 16 months in jail after he was arrested under present defunct TADA in connection with Bombay bomb blasts in 1993
-
Sanjay Dutt moved Supreme Court in August 2007 after he was convicted by TADA court
-
In November 2007 he was granted bail
As Sanjay Dutt appealed to the apex court in 2007 over the six year term, which was awarded to him by TADA court, the Supreme will hear its judgment tomorrow. It is known that CBI earlier in 2012 appealed to the Supreme Court to uphold the conviction of Sanjay Dutt.
