Contraversy over Liyaqat Shah arrest by Delhi Police

Arrest of suspected Hizb Ul Mujahideen member Sayed Liyaqat Shah by Delhi police became a controversial issue in the light of Liyaqat’s wife’s report that her husband is only coming back under J&K rehabilitation program for the Indian militants in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir area.

J&K Police and Delhi Police are differing on their theories. Delhi police are seeking for the documentary proof if Liyaqat’s surrender is scheduled. In the meanwhile the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdulla asked the Union Home Minister Susheel Kumar Shinde to order for an investigation in to the incident of taking Liyaqat’s arrest by Delhi Police. He request for a thorough investigation by NIA to establish the facts.

But Delhi police are sticking to their claim that a Ak 56 Rifle alongwiht 30 rounds and three hand granades were found from a guest house near Jama Masjid in Delhi.

This incident is making the authorities afraid of the doubts that may create in the minds of the militants who want to come back to India from Pakistan and POK under the rehabilitation program launched by the State Government in November 2010.

It is on the record that as per the statement submitted by Omar Abdulla in the parliament on March 11 that applications from the militants in Pakistan and POK under the rehabilitation program are received to the tune of 1089 out of the total estimated militants of 3974.

It is unfortunate that a mistake by the police authorities are seldom accepted. Either J&K police are right or Delhi police. Both versions can be right. One of them are certainly telling a lie which has to be probed in to. But the time lost in the case of Liyaqat if he is proved innocent is lost forever and can never be gained back.
