Strike Call Called Off

The proposed strike of private transport owners from 1st April onwards is cancelled that averted 75 lakshs of trucks and 40 lakhs of buses to go off the road making a loss to the exchequer to the extent of about Rs.2200 crores.

The strike call was given by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) in protest to the hike in the diesel rate and Third Party Insurance Premium. But the Central Government intervened and the strike plan is cancelled as a result. The Central Ministry of Transportation had talks with the AIMTC leaders and said to have given assurances to look in to the matter and come to a solution.

As per the announcement of Milkat Sinhg, President of AIMTC, 20 lakhs of transport permits were to be surrendered to the Government Authorities during strike in Delhi it self.   Malkit Singh announced dropping of the strike in the light of the assurances received from the Government
