IIT Hyderabd gets 1776 crores loan

IIT Hyderabad is getting a total loan of Rs.1776 crores in phases.  15% of the amount will be advanced by the Government of India and the rest of the loan will be lent by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) repayable in 30 years. It is the biggest financial help IIT got from foreign agency so far.

In the first phase IIT Hyderabad is getting an amount of Rs.870 crores ($174.8 million) for its development.  With a financial support of that size IIT Hyderabad is having its infrastructural and long term developmental plans.  IIT H is going to have a special technology center, academic blocks and a research block in which lab equipment will be added that can also be used by private companies for their research carried in the campus.

As a long range plan IIT H wants to increase its strength of the students from the existing 1000 to 7500 by 2018.  Accordingly the strength of the faculty will be increased from the existing number of 100 to 750 by 2018.

With 400 Engineering Colleges in the city of Hyderabad where as 300 in the other places of the State, Hyderabad is having potential for the foreign agencies to extend financial aid to the city institutions and the gesture of JICA may be followed by other foreign agencies to give financial aid for the development.

As it is said by some professors of the Hyderabad University, Japan is eager to invest in the educational institutions and Hyderabad is found as a pool of talent.

Indications show that the higher education is going to get boosted up with foreign aids of this sort.
