The Telugu Desam Party President Chandrababu Naidu is not sure whether he will have a coalition with BJP or not this time while he is planning to form a group of political parties at the National level to contest against Congress party for the elections in 2014. Although he says that an urgent need is there at the center to dethrone Congress party, it seems he has not determined in his mind whether to make an alternative to UPA with or without BJP in it. His decision of course also depends on whether BJP wants it or not.
Secondly history shows that TDP did not find the alliance with BJP fruitful or lucky enough and it lost in the home State also in 2004 when NDA lost at the Center. Chandra Babu’s close associates are in the opinion that the party paid heavy dividends because of the alliance with BJP particularly after 2002 riots in Gujarat at which time Chandra Babu asked NDA to sack Modi but his suggestion was not heeded to. Chandra Babu even wanted to quit NDA at that time but he was persuaded to stay with NDA at that time.
Chandra Babu Naidu who is staying now at Delhi is busily planning and meeting other party leaders to formulate a strategic plan of action. As such it is too early now to say which parties will unite to form an alliance but Chandra Babu has not ruled out alliance with BJP in spite of Modi’s presence as his popularity has made BJP not to think of anything short of making him their PM’s candidate in spite of disagreements from within the party’s senior circles. Even the feed backs Chandra Babu is getting from his own party shows indications in favor of Modi.
But, if an alliance with BJP works out, the worry of Chandra Babu losing Telangana region also may be addressed as BJP in the State earned goodwill in the Telangana region. BJP now is confident of its own strength because of Narendra Modi’s popularity. As such we only have to wait and see whether Chandra Babu wants an alliance with BJP and also whether BJP wants it in the coming days.
