It was the wide use of the social media platforms, which helped Narendra Modi to reach out to the mass. During the annual elections in the month of May, like never before, BJP and Narendra Modi used social media to get maximum coverage and they succeeded in it. After coming to power, Narendra Modi did not let go the technology that easily and instead he called upon his cabinet ministers and all the BJP leaders to get in touch through the social media. This has led the union government to go social on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and so on.
Among them, Ministry of External Affairs [MEA] has made its presence much better in the social media platforms when compared to other ministries. MEA Twitter account has 2.76 lakh followers while in Facebook, it has 6.82 lakh 'LIKES.' The YouTube channel of MEA has 6,100 subscribers with about 5.5 lakh views and Google+ account has 0.45 million followers.
In addition to this, MEA official website www.mea.gov.in is the most visited and accessed government of India website and this portal is also available in Spanish and Arabic languages in an attempt to reach out to the international visitors. MEA has also developed a mobile App 'MEAIndia' and the flagship magazine, “India Perspectives” is available in 14 languages.
