The Rajasthan government has made 'Surya Namaskar' mandatory in all government and private schools with immediate effect. However, this decision is drawing flak from critics and alleged that the government is trying to induct the 'Saffron' symptoms forcefully. There are about 48000 schools in Rajasthan which include 28000 government schools and all of them will now have hold a 20 minute assembly before resuming the classes. The 20 assembly include surya namaskar, meditation and paper reading.
Madhya Pradesh government took a similar decision a while back but it made surya namaskar mandatory only in government schools. Rajasthan government went a step ahead and asked the private schools to participate in this activity daily. Despite getting an oppose, the Rajasthan government defended its decision and stated in the order that this activity would increase the academic environment in the school as well as the physical and mental health of students.
It would have been a good decision, if the government has asked to practice yoga in schools which is away far better than surya namaskar.
