PM Modi expresses concern over church vandalism, nun rape

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over the gang-rape of an elderly nun in West Bengal and the vandalization of a church in Haryana as he sought immediate reports on these incidents. "PM is deeply concerned about the incidents in Hisar, Haryana and Nadia, West Bengal," the PMO tweeted. "PMO has asked for immediate report on facts & action taken regarding the incidents in Haryana & West Bengal," the PMO said in another tweet.

A 71-year-old nun of a convent school was gang-raped in Ranaghat town, some 80km from Kolkata. She was injured so badly that she had to undergo a surgery. "The incident is highly condemnable and we criticize the police inaction. The state has now become a state for rapes. The situation proves the lawless situation in the state," BJP West Bengal party president Rahul Sinha said.

In another incident, an under-construction church in Haryana's Hisar was attacked and vandalized by miscreants and the idol of a Hindu God was placed inside the premises. Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar told that Kaimri villagers were opposed to the "so-called church". A group of attackers had torn down the under-construction church. He added that the priest of the church that was demolished in Hisar's Kaimri village had been luring Hindu youths to his faith by promising to get them brides.
