AP govt. bans NTV and Sakshi?

Due to telecasting continuous negative stories on TDP officials, regarding the cash for vote scam, the AP government decided to ban NTV and Sakshi TV channels.

‘Cash for vote’ scam is expected to get clarity in couple of days, at this stage, AP government is not in a position of sparing anybody, who gives a negative publicity to TDP. Regarding this, the TDP officials felt that, NTV and Sakshi channels are telecasting the stories on cash for vote scam, against the government. This made the government irritated with the channels and so decided to impose ban on them.

Chandra Babu Naidu has already sent notices to AP CMO’S and cable operators to stop NTV and Sakshi channel services in 13 districts of AP. There are also suspicions that, Telangana CM KCR is indirectly involving in spreading the news through these channels. This made Naidu to be more rigid with his decision about the ban.

Similar ban on TV9 and ABN in the past

Imposition of ban on Telugu channels is not new in the Telugu states. Previously, TV9 and ABN faced the similar situation from Telangana government, as the latter felt that those channels telecasted false stories about Telangana movement.

Andhrawishesh view:

Media has to maintain certain standards, as it has the power of influencing the opinion of the people. It has to give the right information and educate the people about the happenings in the society, but not mislead them.

On the other hand, government should know the importance of ‘freedom of speech’ and think twice before imposing a ban on the TV channels.
