An 81 year old woman of Hyderabad, who was suffering from a heart disease, was operated using a heart valve made from a cow's heart.
Not even a few hours passed that we discussed about the Frontier Lifeline Hospital’s operation for a Pakistani with a Hyderabadi heart, here comes one more incident to discuss, where the doctors succeeding in inserting the valve of the cow heart to woman.
According to the reports, the concerned patient's valve was narrowed over time and developed a heart disease, after she had undergone a valve replacement surgery 11 years ago.
The patient was operated by the doctors of Frontier Lifeline Hospital, Chennai, for three hours and removed the diseased valve and replaced it with a new bioprosthetic heart valve, implying inserting of cow heart valve to woman.
The doctors said that, they found difficulty in the procedure as the women undergone breast cancer treatment in the past.
“She had undergone radiotherapy and this had caused tissue in her chest to get stuck. This made her an extremely high risk case,” said Dr Anantharaman, the senior consultant cardiologist, who carried out the surgery.
