Internet porn ban is an intrusion to privacy

The moral policing has been unleashed by banning porn sites. Even CJI refused to ban porn sites, stating it may infringe upon fundamental rights. It said that the apex court cannot ban an adult from viewing porn in the privacy of four walls. But the government has come forward and blocked 857 sites.

In reality, even when the ban is in place, there are ways to access these sites. The blocking of these sites will prompt users to find alternate ways to access these sites. There are enough of alternate options available in the internet.Few of these options are through VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), using proxies, torrents, etc.

VPN services will allow its users to ‘tunnel their internet connection out of India privately at no extra long distance cost to access content that is otherwise blocked in India’, points out VPN Compare. The best VPN providers for accessing an unrestricted internet site in India are IPVanish, VyprVPN and ExpressVPN. To access these services, a user has to simply download the provided software or app and connect to any country outside of India. After this is done, any website viewed on the Internet will be encrypted. Users in India can access any website which includes adult material or anything else as well.

Another way to access these sites are through proxies. A number of proxy websites, including HideMyAss, Free Proxy and inCloak allow users to bypass an internet service provider’s internet protocol (IP) address and connect to any website. Social networking sites such as Reddit, DailyMotion and VKontakte also host a variety of pornographic material.

Using torrents is also a way to access these sites. Users can try downloading porn via torrents. It will take longer duration and occupy a large amount of space on the hard drive as well.

Porn sites have its own merits and demerits. On one side it plays a vital role in easing out the sexual hallucinations, but on the other side it invokes sexual fantasies. Non-availability of these sites may trigger an exodus of sexual fantasies which may affect the society in the long term. Banning is not the solution, instead creating awareness will be the best method to make people realize the reality.
