Ban on bull slaughter continues on Eid too

During Bakri Eid, the popular Muslim festival, the Bombay High Court refused to grant the interim stay on bull slaughter and sell the meat.

Eid is a festival, where the Muslims around the world, celebrate it, having meat in huge quantities. But due to the recent ban on bulls meat, the Muslims are now in  a dilemma for the festival.

Regarding this, a few of the Muslims filed various petitions and asked for an interim relief for it during the festival time, which is for three days (Septermber 25 to 27). But Bombay high court straight away refused to grant the petition.

Speaking about the bull slaughter relaxation for Eid issue, the court said, “We are not inclined to grant any interim relief at this stage, which would amount to a stay on section 5 of the Maharashtra Preservation of Animals (Amendment) Act.”

The court further queried, “Can interim relief be granted on the state government’s statutory power? If there was power of relaxation under the Act, we would have asked the state government to consider it.  How do we grant relief without staying the statutory provision.”

Adding to this, advocates Gayatri Singh and Ejaz Naqvi, argued in the court saying that, slaughter of animals is a crucial part of the Muslim community’s religious practice to sacrifice.

A few of the filed petitions read that, slaughter of animals and their sacrifice forms an essential part of the Muslim community’s religious practice. But denying the statement, court cancelled the petition.

Bull slaughter: Respected Jains, why not Muslims? - Advocate

Advocate Naqvi further argued, “During the Jain community’s festival of Prayushan, respecting their religious beliefs, the state government issued a circular, banning the slaughter of animals and sale of mutton and chicken for two days. Then, why does not the government consider to relax the ban rules on slaughter of animals, respecting the Muslims religious beliefs?”

However, the court said the Bull slaughter issue can be dealt after a detailed affidavit is filed by all the respondents and posted it for final hearing on October 12.
