Due to the heavy rains in Chennai, adverse conditions are witnessed in the city, taking away several lives.
Rainfall has always been a threat. Several times, it took away hundreds of lives and the recent rain in Chennai is not an exception for it.
As per the official reports, currently the death toll in Chennai, due to heavy rains, has gone up to 197.
As the rains are still on, in the city, and moreover, arterial Anna Salai, running north-south across the city, was divided into two clear segments, all kinds of travels like airports, trains and also buses will be confined to to their parking areas.
On the other side, the Adyar river and Poondi reservoir water, is overflowing, and conservatively, it is estimated to be about 20,000 cusecs. It is, thus, smashing the city’s infrastructure of roads and drains, affecting people across the income spectrum.
Chennai rains: Rescue operations
Meanwhile, the armed forces are struggling their best to rescue the people, stuck in the water, above their heads. Even several other rescue operations are being performed by the local officials and others, who are on the safe side.
Even, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and assured her to provide all kinds of possible support from the Centre, for the flood affected victims.
Showing the concern to the families affected, due to the rains, many of the biggies, celebrities from the film industry and politicians assured their support, by contributing to the victims.
Rains to be continued in Chennai for the next 24 hours!
Due to presence of a low pressure in Bay of Bengal, Chennai weather office is predicting more rains in Tamilnadu, over the next 24 hours.
Speaking on the issue, Regional Meteorological Department Director, S.R. Ramanan said, “Due to low pressure, rainfall will continue in next 24 hours in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry with some places receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall.
“Cuddalore, Coimbatore, Nilgiris districts may witness very heavy rainfall. For Chennai and its surroundings it may be cloudy with intermittent rainfall over the next 24 hours,” he added.
