14-15 new districts in Telangana, this year!

The Telangana government, this year would increase the number of districts in the Telangana state to 24-25, including the 10 existing ones, besides an additional 40 mandals.

Telangana Chief Minister KCR discussed about the same with the Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali and other senior officials of the party. An announcement of new districts would be made on June 2nd, which is Telangana State Formation Day.

“New districts will come into existence either from August 15 or Dasara. Functions will also be held accordingly. Mandals will also be reorganised for administrative convenience. Smaller districts can be administered better. For every eight to 10 mandals, there will be a revenue division,” KCR said.

CM instructed Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma to take immediate steps for carving out the new districts and mandals in the state. Currently, Telangana state, with a population of 3.5 crore, has 10 districts, 42 revenue divisions and 464 revenue mandals.

As the Central government is considering to increase the number of assembly constituencies from 119 to 153, KCR said even the state government should carve out the new districts and mandals in tune with it for administrative convenience.

“Travelling long distances within a district is causing hardship to both officials and people. Smaller districts can be administered better. Hyderabad has developed rapidly and the similar developments should also be witnessed in the other places of the state. Increase in districts and mandals will also increase the employment opportunities and provide promotions to the government employees,” KCR explained.
