TDP and TRS fight over KRMB’s jurisdiction

A complaint was lodged with Union water resources minister Uma Bharti by irrigation minister Harish Rao against the decisions of the Krishna River Management Board. Rao also urged Uma Bharti not to bring irrigation projects under KRMB’s jurisdiction.

Harish Rao called on Uma Bharti along with few TRS MPs on Monday. He told her that the KRMB was against the interests of Telangana state. He also added that the board was favouring Andhra Pradesh.

Rao added that the board circulated a draught notification for bringing all the irrigation projects on Krishna river.

Harish Rao said “The KRMB could not decide water sharing and it could only monitor the release of waters. The projects should not be brought under KRMB, till the cases are finalised and the actual share of TS in Krishna river is fixed.”

On June 27, KRMB is going to hold a meeting which was circulated in the notification.

Harish Rao explained to Uma Bharti “Without project-wise allocations as suggested by the AP Reorganisation Act, KRMB’s control over irrigation projects will damage the interests of TS.”

After all this discussion, Uma Bharti decided to hold a meeting with her secretary Amarjit Sigh. She had asked TS chief secretary Rajiv Sharma to meet CWC officials.

Rao also spoke with Union cabinet secretary Srivastav on the same issue.Later Rao confirmed that justice would be done to all states.

In his letter, he stated that “As per the final award of KWDT-1, Telangana and other upper riparian states are entitled to get the share in the waters of river Krishna on account of such augmentation.”

He requested Bharti to allocate 45 tmc water to Telangana from Krishna. He also added as Pattiseema is not part of Polavaram project. He insisted that even Telangana also wanted another 45 tmc additional water.

Even Andhra Pradesh Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu also wrote a 3-page letter to Uma Bharti urging her to notify KRMB at the earliest.

He stated a strong objection to the move of Telangana irrigation minister. He asked the Centre not to issue a notification. He then stated that the demand of the TS government was not in tune with the letter in-spite of the AP State Reorganisation Act.
